German tone-king Gregor Hilden has come up with another jazz to blues disc that he continues to feature ex-pat African American singers. The album’s vocalists are Stevie Woods & Johnny Rogers, with Rogers featuring on two previous releases. Though Woods gets only one run out, his voice is sweeter & more soulful where as Rogers is more in the raw Otis Redding straining tension area. The songs range from light modern jazz, funky/blues, Southern soul/blues and tone dripping Peter Green/Gary Moore. Hilden’s three compositions are made up of two modern light & sprightly jazz numbers and a slow jazz/blues affair. The band is really pro with some lovely keyboard work from Thomas Hufschmidt. The bonus track is the perennial “Fever” played before a live club audience; Tommy Schneller gets a nice sax workout while Hilden takes it down really quiet before bursting back through the still studio air. The band play classily throughout, the taste & tone is easy on the ear in a velvety way. The CD case has a track by track run down of every guitar & amp Mr. Hilden employs. This is a blues hour that’s nearly six minutes short, but the guitarist from Munster cuts muster! …
